LAWRENCE A. SHAFRON, M.D., Chief Surgeon and Medical Director of Advanced Eye Care Center, was born in Vancouver, Canada and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Yeshiva University in New York, NY. He earned his M.D. at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, and also completed his internship at Englewood Hospital. Dr. Shafron completed his residency training in Ophthalmology at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Dr. Shafron is married and the proud father of three sons and one daughter.
Dr. Shafron is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is also a leader in the North Texas area for glaucoma care as well as cataract surgery.
Dr. Shafron is a leader in the Denton County area with extensive experience in Tecnis Multifocal®, ReSTOR®, ReZOOM® Lifestyle lenses as well as Toric Intraocular lens implants. He is also Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas.
His memberships include: the Texas Medical Association, the Denton County Medical Society, a
fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Texas Ophthalmological Association, the
American College of Eye Surgeons, the Texas Medical Foundation, the American Society of
Refractive Surgery and the International Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
Rodgers L. Eckhart, M.D., Ophthalmology associate at Advanced Eye Care Center, was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He earned his M.D. from Texas Tech University of both Lubbock and Amarillo, Texas and completed his internship at Oakwood Healthcare Hospital in Dearborn, Michigan. Dr. Eckhart trained in Ophthalmology at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia were he has served this past year as Chief Resident. Dr. Eckhart is married and the proud father of triplets.
Dr. Eckhart is board certified with the American Board of Ophthalmology and he brings a wealth of ophthalmology proficiency in glaucoma, retinal procedures, cataracts, keratitis and minor eye surgery to the Denton community.
His memberships include: the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the Texas Ophthalmological Association.

PAUL G. MIDDLETON, O.D., Director of Optometric Services at Advanced Eye Care Center, was born in Brady, Texas and graduated from Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. He earned his Doctor of Optometry degree at the University of Houston, Houston, Texas. Dr. Middleton is married to Jennifer and is the proud father of two beautiful daughters.
Dr. Middleton is a therapeutic optometrist and a contact lens specialist. He is certified by the National Board of Examiners in Optometry and certified in the Treatment and Management of Ocular Disease by the International Association of the Board of Examiners in Optometry. Dr. Middleton completed his clinical externships at Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, Georgia and at the Eyecare and Surgery Center of North Texas in Dallas, Texas.
Dr. Middleton is extensively trained in preoperative and postoperative management of cataract and refractive surgery patients, including Lifestyle lenses (Tecnis Multifocal®, ReSTOR®, ReZoom® & Toric lenses) as well as LASIK procedures. He performs comprehensive dilated eye examinations for diagnosis and treatment of ocular disease, including cataract, glaucoma, macular degeneration, corneal disease and diabetic retinopathy. In addition, he specializes in fitting soft contact lenses and Rigid Gas Permeable contact lenses.
